Signs you need a new liner
- Faded colour or a pattern you can barely see
- Wrinkles, or the liner pulling away from the track
- Tears, punctures or brittle spots
- Losing water with no plumbing leak
Pool liner replacement cost
A standard replacement averages around $3,000 in Canada. In-ground pools range from about $1,800 for small pools to $10,000+ for large ones, depending on size and liner type (HomeStars pool liner cost guide). These are general ranges, not quotes.
What the job involves
The pool is drained, the old liner removed and the floor and walls repaired. A new liner is measured, installed and vacuum-set before the pool is refilled. Most residential liners are done in a few days, plus refill time.
Common questions
Can a liner be patched instead?
Small tears can often be patched. Widespread fading, brittleness or wrinkles usually mean replacement.
When is the best time to replace a liner?
Spring or early fall, so the pool is ready for summer or so the work is done before closing.
